Join us!

Please join us on SATURDAY, MAY 31st for the 2nd Annual Oakland Youth Arts Festival! We are actively seeking volunteers, young artists, businesses and community organizations to partner with or sponsor us for this inspiring and important event.

“Art Saves Lives” is the second incarnation of the annual Oakland Youth Arts Festival at the Oakland Museum of California, sponsored by the Oakland Unified School District, hosted by Mind Power Collective in partnership with Oakland’s arts, youth and community organizations and leaders.

This year’s festival coincides with the “Cool Remixed”* contemporary arts exhibition at the Oakland Museum of California, which serves as our inspiration… urban youth art in Oakland ignites joy and passion for life in our communities.

Despite being the 4th most dangerous city in the country, those of us who love and live in Oakland know there is tremendous existent promise and future potential in our youth. Creative expression provides a unique outlet for our youth and our communities to show what amazing inspirations, dreams and connections we each have within us.

We believe the time for action is now. The time has come that our youth feel validated and listened to as a whole. It has been said that there is no greater form of truth than the artistic voice; and our youth communities are full of this amazing and positive energy. Now more than ever it is imperative that the artistic voices of our youth be heard, seen and honored.

“Art Saves Lives” is a multi-media festival of art making, exhibition and performance. We will showcase and truly honor the youth of Oakland’s voices while allowing our community to bear witness to truth in its most compelling and thought provoking form, through the arts. It our greatest hope that this artistic truth will be a foundation and catalyst for a youth movement and community organizing as a whole.
